Quality of life is reduced due to canker sores

Burning pain, redness and swelling that interfere with eating and daily communication are the worries of most people with canker sores. So how to get rid of the obsession called canker sores effectively and safely?

How does canker sores affect life?

Aphthous ulcer (scientific name: Aphthous ulcer) is a common disease that occurs in both adults and children. Symptoms of the disease include the appearance of one or more small, shallow ulcers inside the mouth, under the tongue or on the gums. The ulcers are usually round or oval in shape, white or yellow, with red edges. Mouth ulcers are a common disease that although not dangerous to the patient, the ulcers, redness and swelling cause pain and discomfort in eating, drinking and daily communication. During treatment for canker sores, eating is probably the biggest “obsession” of most patients. Canker sores often cause a burning pain in the oral cavity. When food touches the ulcers, especially spicy and hot foods, the ulcers become more strongly irritated and cause more pain. This causes a feeling of loss of appetite and “fear” of eating in sick people.

Besides, canker sores also cause pain and difficulty in oral hygiene, leading to psychological discomfort and lack of confidence in communication. Even more seriously, if not properly cared for and treated, canker sores will become more severe, take longer to heal, and even appear more canker sores at the same time, easily leading to acute inflammation. even high fever, headache, insomnia,  digestive disorders and can recur many times. With the above factors, if not treated effectively, the patient’s quality of life can be reduced simply because of mouth ulcers.

What types of canker sores are there?

There are 3 common types of mouth ulcers:

Minor oral thrush: This is the most common form of oral thrush, accounting for up to 80%. In this form, the ulcers are shallow, with red, inflamed edges and a gray-white bottom, causing pain to the patient. The place where it usually appears is on the lips, cheeks and base of the mouth with a diameter of 3mm to less than 10mm. Normally, these ulcers will heal on their own after 7-14 days and leave no scars.

Major canker sores: This is the most severe form of canker sores, accounting for about 10% of the total number of people with the disease. The ulcers in this case are 1-3 cm large, deeper, have raised edges, and a white bottom. These ulcers are very painful on the lips, soft palate, throat… When suffering from this disease, the patient will suffer longer damage, lasting up to 6 weeks, often leaving scars and recurring continuously.

Herpes mouth sores: This is the least common form of mouth sores, accounting for about 10% of cases. Ulcers are about 1-3mm in size but cluster together, in a small area or over a large area. Normally, the disease will go away after 2 weeks, but it recurs after a short time and can leave scars.
